Name: Gerastos batrachus van Viersen & Prescher, 2010
Stratigraphy: Eilenberg Member, Freilingen Formation, upper Eifelian
Locality: Rommersheim, Eifel, Germany

There is a common Gerastos species at the old Rommersheim locality in the Eifel which we named Gerastos rommersheimensis. Hundreds of articulated specimens have been found. But during our investigations it became clear that there was a second, very rare species, which is on the photos below. We called it "batrachus", after the Greek word for frog, in reference to its ranine appearance in anterior view.
